Scott Morrison Billings Gazette photo

With his house perfectly situated atop a small mountain, Scott is inspired by the beauty of the "Last Best Place".  Most days, you can find him in the workshop spending long hours perfecting his craft.

Each piece begins by hand-selecting the finest wood available.  The unique and natural characteristics of this wood are exposed through flowing lines and strong, yet elegant joinery.

Using a variety of hand tools and sculpting techniques, paying particular attention to details such as grain direction and subtle color changes, the wood is painstakingly carved and shaped into its final form.  As a final step, each piece is hand rubbed with a mixture of tung oil and resin, providing a protective coat and enhancing the delicate nature of the wood.

"I strive to capture the timeless and unique character of wood through fluid shapes and simple lines, just as it appears in nature."

Rocking Chairs and Custom Furniture

...handmade, heirloom quality and built to last.  I invite you to experience the look, feel, quality and comfort of one of these handmade pieces.  My custom rocking chairs provide superior lumbar support and will cradle your body like nothing you have ever experienced.

The Perfect Rocking Chair

...it takes the eye of an artist, the hand of a craftsman and the design skills of an engineer.  Sam Maloof embodies all of these traits and, in case you haven't surmised, is one of my biggest influences.  Not only has Sam helped change the perception and attitudes of consumers all over the world, but he has been instrumental in bringing the craft of woodworking to new levels.

The Benefits of Rocking

The benefits of rocking in a chair are numerous and include relieving lower back pain, blood pressure therapy, calming a crying baby, and rocking to stay fit.  Read more about rockers and comfort.

Chair Building

The human body, although as varied as wood grain itself, still wants to be comfortable.  With this in mind, I build my rocking chairs with exceptional lumbar support, sculpted seats, headrests and arms, all of which are sanded to a glass-like finish to cradle your body as though it were made just for the rocking chair instead of the reverse.  Read more about my chair building process.

Thinking Outside the Chair

Woodworking is my passion - and building custom chairs is what makes that passion burn.  The challenges of creating a thing of beauty, lasting strength, pleasing form and sensual comfort are numerous and force me to continually revise my pieces.  I refuse to accept the notion that I have mastered my craft; complacency and status quo have no place in my workshop.  Read more about me and my chairs in the press as well as my exhibits and awards.
